International Women's Day and Women's History Month, March 2010

Happy International Women's day and Women's history month. From so many men, I hear things like, "Why don't we get a day, why do women deserve a day?" While I understand the question, It makes me wonder how much the average American has studied history. Women did not have the right to vote until 1920! As a 26 year old, educated, young professional, I can't imagine not having that right.
You learn a lot about a society by simply looking at the history of it which has shaped where it is today. Yes, women have come a long way since 1920. However, the fact that so many people seem to have a problem with a day and month dedicated to the struggles women have had to overcome tells me that we still have much further to go.
I intend to help lead my generation of women even further along so that we can help change the paradigm of American society to be one that see's men and women as equal human beings. While there are obviously differences between the sexes, we are both human and deserve the same rights and respect. Education is one of the most important steps in this. Thanks, and happy international women's day to you all! :)
